When the energy produced by the system is larger than the energy consumption at the site, the surplus energy is transferred or exported to the grid. Solar export is the process of selling this unused energy from a solar system back to an energy supplier. The challenge with the Solar Export market Most solar PV panel installation projects are designed to reduce the amount of energy imported from the grid whilst minimising the potential volume exported. Therefore, the export market is smaller by nature and often categorised as niche. There must be a surplus of energy produced by the solar system for energy to be exported back to the grid. Electricity price increases in the import markets are mirrored in the export marketplace. Energy price volatility has narrowed the focus on reducing costs and created a renaissance in renewable technology projects such as solar. Most consumers are aware of the cost reduction benefits of solar but not the potential to create an additional revenue stream. The complexities in setting up an export contract and inaccessibility to suppliers offering export contracts have meant most energy consumers don’t have the expertise needed to extract additional value from their system. Often companies will be receiving little to no payments for their energy exports and are therefore failing to capitalise on a valuable asset. Get In Touch Our Solar PPA Export Process McGrady Clarke can analyse the exported consumption from any existing systems or even from systems in development. Based on this analysis we’ll tender the export to a number of trusted energy supply partners, assessing fixed price and flexible Solar PPAs in order to achieve the optimum sale price. We provide a full journey service, reviewing and facilitating the transfer of contracts between the client and supplier, ensuring confirmation of the contract’s completion and informing all parties of the agreement completion. From here we’ll ensure any necessary metering or infrastructure works are carried out, whilst managing and verifying the related data flows. Our accounts team act as a liaison between the client and supplier ensuring invoices are raised and payment is released to you in a timely and accurate fashion. Get In Touch FAQ's Who purchases the Solar export? An energy supplier purchases the exported energy; a growing list of energy suppliers are seeking to purchase exported solar energy as it is often more cost-effective than buying energy from the wholesale market. Does it affect import contracts? Energy export contracts have no bearing on import contracts; a client may have the same or a different supplier for each. Why Choose McGrady Clarke to help you with your Solar Export? McGrady Clarke has a suite of customised solutions and commercial relationships with energy suppliers, to maximise the revenue generation from our clients’ exported solar energy. Our consultants manage the project, from tendering, metering and infrastructure to data verification. This project coordination ensures that you will receive a tailored solution and the optimal rates for your exported energy.
