Align your business with NHS Net Zero commitments by completing the Evergreen Assessment and strengthen your NHS credentials

What is the NHS Evergreen Sustainability Assessment?

The NHS Net Zero Supplier Roadmap is a key requirement for suppliers, and failure to align with these sustainability standards will jeopardise the chances of securing government tenders. In addition to the broader mandatory public sector PPN 06/21 requirement, the NHS sustainability assessment is a tool used to evaluate the sustainability efforts of organisations aiming to secure and retain NHS procurement opportunities.

Key dates

April 2024

NHS procurements require UK NHS suppliers suppliers to publish a Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP). The CRP must include Scope 1, 2 and 5 subsets of Scope 3 emissions, aligning with PPN 06/21.

April 2027

From April 2027, NHS procurement requirements will require suppliers to publish a comprehensive, publicly available Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) covering their full global Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, alongside clear reduction targets and progress reporting. These updated requirements introduce a more robust, tiered approach – particularly for higher-value contracts – aimed at increasing transparency and accelerating emissions reductions across the entire supply chain. McGrady Clarke’s specialists are here to support you in navigating these evolving requirements and achieving compliance with confidence.

April 2028

New regulations will be implemented to govern the carbon footprint assessments of individual products supplied to the NHS.

Maturity level scores to measure a company’s current sustainability status

A commitment to Net Zero by 2050 must be demonstrated through a PPN 06/21 compliant Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP), reporting on UK emissions including Scope 1, 2 and relevant Scope 3.

Organisations must demonstrate their commitment to Net Zero by 2050 through comprehensive Scope 1-3 emissions reporting within the UK boundary. They must also establish an associated CRP and public policies on modern slavery and social value.

Organisations must show A commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2045, supported by a verified CRP and comprehensive global Scope 1-3 emissions reporting, ensure compliance with modern slavery and social value requirements, including the use of the Modern Slavery Assessment Tool.

Organisations must report their global Scope 1-3 emissions footprint and CRP, inclusive of parent companies, and ensure full transparency through CDP, EcoVadis, or similar platforms. They must also meet modern slavery and social value obligations by publishing a public modern slavery statement, using the Modern Slavery Assessment Tool, and implement a corporate social value programme.
