Energy Auditing Compliance Scheme (EAS)

Cliffs of Moher Ireland sunset

Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) EAS Energy Efficiency Directive (EED SI599)

The EAS is a mandatory programme aimed at driving energy efficiency improvements in large organisations. Qualifying entities are required to conduct energy audits that meet the SEAI’s Minimum Criteria and identify cost-effective energy-saving opportunities. By participating in the EAS, businesses can reduce their energy consumption, lower operating costs, and contribute to Ireland’s national energy efficiency targets.

Who Does the EAS Apply To?

The EAS applies to large organisations in Ireland that meet any of the following criteria:

  • 250 or more employees.
  • Annual turnover exceeding €50 million and an annual balance sheet total exceeding €43 million.
  • A public body with individual buildings with a total useful floor area of more than 500m² or an annual energy spend of more than €35,000.

If your organisation meets any of the above criteria, you are obligated to comply with the EAS.

Our EAS compliance process

EAS data audit

The energy audit process begins with the collection of comprehensive energy consumption data, encompassing all utilities and any on-site fuel usage. This involves identifying any inconsistencies within the data, ensuring that they are are resolved to maintain data accuracy. Following statistical analysis, energy consumption patterns will be used to identify inefficiencies, which then forms the basis for our recommendations to improve energy efficiency in your organisation. Additionally, energy benchmarking is conducted to provide valuable insights into overall energy performance.

Onsite energy audit

Next, we conduct an onsite assessment to gain a thorough understanding of your operational processes, onsite energy usage and energy usage behaviors looking at policies, procedures and attitudes towards energy reduction. During this assessment, we identify opportunities to optimise energy consumption and evaluate all energy streams, including buildings, transport and industrial processes.

Reccomendations and reporting

After completing the onsite audit, we develop a comprehensive action plan outlining key opportunities. This includes a financial analysis of the recommended opportunities, producing detailed audit reports and carrying out a full debrief with your organisation to discuss findings and next steps.

Notification submission

Assistance with notification of compliance by submitting a notification form on the system.

Ongoing support

EAS runs every four years, we support your continued compliance with EAS regulations by providing updates on any changes to regulations and best practices. We also offer support during any SEAI audits to ensure a smooth process.
