Display Energy Certificates (DECs) are a legal requirement for public buildings and provide a clear indication of a building’s actual energy performance based on metered energy consumption. They promote transparency and encourage building operators to improve energy efficiency, contributing to reduced carbon emissions and lower operating costs.
DECs are mandatory for public buildings that:
- Have a total useful floor area exceeding 250m².
- Are occupied by a public sector organisation.
- Are frequently visited by the public.
If your building meets these criteria, you are legally required to obtain and display a valid DEC.
