Over a 12-month period, McGrady Clarke provided multi-energy account management and bureau services across 432 locations to bring greater clarity and oversight to Wirral Council's extensive energy portfolio.
With energy supplied across electricity, water and natural gas, and a diverse estate that includes schools, public amenities and business centres, Wirral Council required a consolidated approach to understanding energy consumption, costs and portfolio performance.
Through proactive energy account management, supplier engagement and data collection, McGrady Clarke delivered enhanced visibility of energy usage across the portfolio. This enabled the identification of billing discrepancies, metering issues and opportunities to improve the accuracy of energy data and reporting.
The project delivered three key outcomes:
- Data cleansing and reporting set-up
- Consumption and cost analysis
- Identification of opportunities to improve billing accuracy and portfolio performance
“McGrady Clarke’s energy management and bureau services gave us invaluable insights into our overall energy use across a large and complex portfolio. Their analysis and recommendations highlighted opportunities to improve visibility, data accuracy and future energy management across the estate.”
Steve Boyd, Assistant Director – Procurement and Commercial Services, Wirral Council
Multi-energy management bringing strategic advantage
McGrady Clarke worked collaboratively across all of Wirral Council’s electricity, water and natural gas suppliers, providing the Council’s energy team with a single source of reporting and insight across its entire estate.
Detailed billing reviews and consumption reporting were undertaken to validate invoices, identify anomalies and highlight discrepancies. The analysis provided greater transparency of energy use and costs across the portfolio, enabling informed decision-making and more effective oversight.
As part of the project, McGrady Clarke identified opportunities to strengthen billing accuracy through more frequent meter readings, improved query management processes and the adoption of Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) technology where appropriate. These recommendations were designed to improve data accuracy, reduce the risk of estimated billing and provide greater confidence in ongoing energy management.
This level of reporting enabled McGrady Clarke to provide support to the Council through data cleansing, data reporting, account trend analysis and portfolio corrective actions.
