Lindner Prater Limited (LPL) and Lindner Interiors Limited (LIL) are the two UK subsidiaries of the renowned German-based Lindner Group. LPL is the UK’s leading specialist building full envelope contractor, and LIL are an established interiors fit out company, predominantly supplying and installing Lindner’s own products, which have been manufactured in Arnstorf, Germany. With a focus on innovation, sustainability and quality, Lindner as a worldwide group ensures exceptional construction services, and the Lindner UK subsidiaries have been involved in some iconic projects such as the landmark Tate Modern 2 gallery, London Bridge Station redevelopment, Wimbledon Court No. 1, Twickenham Stadium, and many more.
Given the complexity of their sector and the products and services they provide, Lindner’s UK subsidiaries chose to partner with McGrady Clarke to support and inform their sustainability journey through voluntary initiatives and regulatory compliance.
Decarbonising with accurate and actionable strategies
The growing urgency of addressing climate change has led organisations like LPL and LIL to focus on quantifying and reducing carbon emissions. In collaboration with McGrady Clarke’s carbon specialists, they undertook a Carbon Footprint Assessment (CFA) and developed a comprehensive Net Zero Strategy. This initiative involved a detailed evaluation of operational greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across their business activities for the 2023 reporting year. This represents the second time they have quantified their Scope 1, 2 and 3 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, following an initial assessment in 2021.
The recommended actions were developed using expert knowledge and informed by industry best practices. These actions ranged from short-term initiatives, such as implementing a monitoring and targeting platform, to long-term measures such as establishing carbon reduction partnerships with key Purchased Goods & Services suppliers.
To further enhance data accuracy for the CFA, McGrady Clarke carried out a Supplier Deep Dive Assessment. This initiative was designed to gather more precise, supplier-specific data for Scope 3 emissions categories such as Purchased Goods and Services and Upstream Leased Assets. The process involved engaging LPL and LIL’s key suppliers through a sustainability questionnaire to better understand their current sustainability reporting practices and collect any available GHG emissions data they had.
LPL, the larger of the two organisations, has also engaged with McGrady Clarke for multiple years to support their compliance with Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) after meeting the required thresholds for disclosing UK energy use and associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. McGrady Clarke plays a key role in ensuring that LPL’s emissions and energy data are accurately calculated and reported, enabling the company to meet SECR requirements and contribute to their broader sustainability goals.
Implementing energy efficiency to meet compliance
LPL was also required to comply with ESOS Phase 3. McGrady Clarke conducted site audits, collated energy data and produced detailed site reports. An in-depth desktop transport audit was also completed, followed by the creation of an overarching ESOS report.
During the reporting period, several energy efficiency measures were implemented by Lindner Prater. This included replacing traditional lighting with energy-efficient LED bulbs, significantly reducing energy consumption. Additionally, a time clock was installed on the Air Handling Unit of the office in Quinton, reducing running hours from 24/7 to 14 hours a day. They have also continued its Electric Vehicle (EV) salary sacrifice scheme as part of their ongoing commitment to sustainability.
Quarterly dashboards to achieve sustainability targets
As part of their ongoing commitment to sustainability in 2024, LPL and LIL partnered with McGrady Clarke to develop quarterly sustainability dashboards. This project assisted with internal monitoring and tracking of Lindner’s SMART sustainability targets and objectives, such as increasing environmental awareness through staff training and reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. The dashboards provide a clear, data-driven overview of progress, ensuring both companies stay on track to meet their sustainability targets.
With the support of McGrady Clarke and our comprehensive energy and carbon assessments, active supply chain engagement, and energy-efficiency recommendations, clear progress is being made towards meeting Net Zero goals.
