Slaters Electricals Case Study Image

“McGrady Clarke were recommended to us by the installer of our solar PV system and it made is simple for us to achieve a competitive feed-in tariff for our surplus power. We were so pleased with McGrady Clarke’s service that we have since moved our energy procurement to them as well.”                                                                                                              – Jamie Slater, Director

Slaters Electricals, a leading provider of power distribution equipment, offers a full suite of services from transformer and switchgear sales to installation, maintenance, and parts. Located in Blaydon, they operate both a factory and office while managing an expanding fleet of fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs). Driven by their commitment to sustainability, Slaters Electricals wanted to optimise their renewable energy use while maintaining operational efficiency.

Turning surplus power into profit and sustainability

Slaters Electricals engaged a third party to install a 112kWp solar PV system at their Blaydon facility. The system quickly began producing more electricity than the company needed for its daily operations, creating a surplus of renewable energy. Recognising the potential of this excess power, McGrady Clarke worked with Slaters to develop a strategy that would not only help them manage this surplus but also turn it into profit.

Through a Solar Power Purchase Agreement (Solar PPA), Slaters Electricals was able to sell more than 7MWh of electricity back to the grid in just one month, creating a new revenue stream while supporting a greener energy grid. This initiative has allowed Slaters Electricals to reinforce its environmental commitments, generating both financial and environmental benefits.
